Emmanuel Roux was born in Tunisia where his parents had a farm. He grew up between Tunisia, France and the UK. Roux studied hotel management in Switzerland before serving the French Navy and traveling the world.

After moving to the US in 1975, Roux was general manager of the Lotos Club Manhattan's third oldest private club. He later founded a specialty pasta restaurant in Savannah, GA before moving to Tampa and later St. Petersburg, where he has since owned several restaurants at the rebirth of downtown.

Roux now owns Gateau O Chocolat, a well-known flourless chocolate cake bakery. For the last 10 years, he has developed an interest in Urban agriculture and is running 15th St Agrihood, an intensive organic educational farm in downtown St. Petersburg which features an event space and commercial kitchen.
